Howard Thurman

These words were written Nov. 22, 1959, by Howard Thurman, who served as dean of Rankin Chapel at Howard University from 1932-44, and dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University from 1953-65. In 1944, he co-founded the first major interracial, interdenominational church in the United States. He also was a significant influence in the Civil Rights movement and a mentor of Martin Luther King Jr.
