Recent events have reminded me of Aristophanes’ Lysistrata, a play written in the year 411 B.C.E., in which women stage a sex strike to force men to stop the Peloponnesian War.
Now that the Supreme Court has ruled that women do not have a fundamental right to obtain an abortion, it seems a good time to remind the women of this nation that abstinence might be a good way to go from now until things change! Men, as it turns out — even married men — do not have a fundamental right to engage in sex with an unwilling partner! How interesting a movement in this direction could become! “Darling, when women regain their right to choice and privacy, I’m sure I’ll be more in the mood for love!”
