Roger McFarland, age 86, of Green Valley, AZ and previously of Watertown, SD, died peacefully on April 24, 2019.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Valley Presbyterian Church, 2800 S Camino Del Sol, Green Valley, AZ 85622. Pastor Diane Christopher will officiate.
Roger McFarland, son of Howard and Pearl McFarland, was born April 6, 1933 in Sioux City, IA. Upon graduating from Watertown High School in 1951, he spent a year at The U.S. Military Academy at West Point before attending the University of Minnesota where he received a degree from the School of Agriculture. He then served in the United States Army followed by several years in the Reserves.
He worked for Tennant Company for 20 years which took him and his family from Minnesota to New York, Virginia, and Japan. Roger retired from Tennant and returned to his hometown, Watertown, SD, where he worked as a financial planner and cattleman. He and his wife embraced full-retirement upon their move to Arizona in 2004.
Roger’s many interests included a love for Shorthorn cattle, sports, travel, bridge, music, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the American Shorthorn Association, an avid supporter of Watertown High School athletics, and an active choir member of his church congregations in Watertown and Green Valley.
Roger is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia, of Green Valley, AZ; his son, Brad McFarland (Karen) of St. Francis, MN; his daughter Julie Goldmann (Sean) of Flower Mound, TX; his brother, David McFarland of Boca Raton, FL and three grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sons.
