Ethel Jane (West) McGinnis was born on Dec. 10, 1944 at Carrollton, Missouri to A.J & Helen (Snider) West. She died Friday, May 11, 2018 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado after a brief illness.

Ethel graduated from Hardin Central High School in Hardin, MO in 1962. She married Bill Bowles in 1963 and had two children, Bruce Alan and Lesli Ann. They later divorced.

Ethel met the love of her life, Ron McGinnis, at the King Restaurant in Excelsior Springs, Missouri in October of 1970 and they married in December of that year. Ethel gained three daughters: Robin Ann, Victoria Rachelle, and Susan Diane when she married Ron.

Ron and Ethel made their home in Independence, Kansas and later in Coffeyville, Kansas. Upon retirement in 1997, Ron and Ethel moved to Green Valley, Arizona where they still lived.

Ethel worked in the office of a business that she and Ron co-owned, Fiberglass Corporation of America, in Coffeyville, for 19 years. After retiring from FCA, she continued to help manage many numerous business ventures with Ron until her death.

Ethel was known to be a kind and classy lady who was always appropriate and her grace was visible and palpable to all who knew her.

Along with their 5 children, Ethel and Ron have 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren they adore and who adored them in return.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Ron of the home; her children, son Bruce (Gary) Bowles, Parsons, Kansas; daughters Lesli (David) Starr, Milliken, Colorado; Robin Thomas, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Victoria Durham, Kansas City, Missouri; Susan (Ed) Sottoriva, Kansas City, Missouri; her sisters Lola (West) Duesenberg, Kansas City, Missouri, and Barbara (West) Pennington, Carrolton, Missouri; her brother Richard West, Chattanooga, Tennessee; her uncle Earnest West of Denver, Colorado; and many other cherished family and friends.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, A.J. & Helen West; one daughter, Cheryl Rene McGinnis; mother-in-law Rachel McGinnis; one brother Billy West and one sister Carolyn (West) Stanton.

Visitation will be held at the Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home at 306 W. Main Street in Independence, Kansas on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be at Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home on Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m. with graveside to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas.
