Douglas Earl Pope was born on July 8, 1925 to Bert and Luella Townsend Pope in Beloit, Wis., and passed away May 25, 2019.
Doug attended Beloit schools and after graduation from Beloit High School in 1943 joined the Marine Corps, serving in Guam and Japan. After his service, he married Lillian Lovaas on June 26, 1948 and to them were born two daughters, Susan (Jim) Carey and Patricia Reynolds. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Doug received the Lamb Award for his work with the Boy Scouts and earned his three beads in Wood Badge. He was blessed with many talents. He was a wood carver. He was a weaver, weaving Navajo style rugs. He taught and stitched Hardanger. He was an auxiliary member of the church quilting group.
A memorial service will be held June 15 at 11 a.m. at Desert Hills Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Dept. of the church.
