Tractor fire

A tractor was destroyed in a fire late Thursday morning, but the driver was able to escape uninjured, said Rural Metro Battalion Chief John Walka.

The driver of a dirt hauler was able to escape injury Thursday morning after his tractor caught fire near Helmet Peak and Mission roads.

When firefighters arrived to the scene around 11:30 a.m., they found the tractor fully engulfed in flames, but they were able to save the hauler, which was empty, said Rural Metro Fire Department Battalion Chief John Walka.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but was more than likely due to a mechanical failure, he said.
