An Amado man lost more than $800 while trying to sell some puppies.
According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the victim placed an ad on Craigslist for puppies. Someone claiming to be interested in the dogs sent him a check for $1,300 from Bowling Green, Kentucky, and said $500 was for the puppies and $800 was for a company that would pick up the puppies.
The victim took the $800 out of the bank and paid $22.50 to Western Union to send the money to the "company" in Fresno, California, the report stated.
On Thursday, the man discovered the $1,300 check was fraudulent after calling the bank used by the "puppy buyer."
The victim also told deputies someone else contacted him about the puppies from a different phone number. They, too, wanted to send him a check to pay for the puppies and to pay a company to pick up the puppies.
