The Sahuarita Police Department is pursuing several leads after a north-side Rancho Sahuarita neighborhood was struck by vandals overnight for the second time in a week.

Lt. Sam Almodova said detectives believe the suspect or suspects stole spray paint out of an unlocked work truck in the 300 block of West Calle Patio Lindo and tagged walls behind that street and a vacant home in the 700 block of West Calle Marojo.

It will likely cost thousands of dollars to remove the paint, which covered three sides of the home, including the garage door, Almodova said.

Last week, similar graffiti appeared in washes and on backyard walls, vehicles and sidewalks on West Calle Paso Suave in the same neighborhood, he said.

The graffiti included racial slurs and profanity, but detectives have no reason to believe the suspects specifically targeted the home or vehicles, Almodova said. Nor do they believe the incidents are gang-related at this point.

"To me, it just looks like stupidity on someone's part," he said. "Right now, we're looking at it as a crime of opportunity."
