Green Valley World War II pilot Richard Bushong, 93, took the controls of the Aluminum Overcast on Jan. 26, 2017, during a flight out of Marana Regional Airport. Bushong was invited by the Experimental Aircraft Association, which offers flights on vintage biplanes and historic bombers around the country. Bushong retired as a colonel in 1974 after flying 43 types of airplanes during his career, including 28 missions in a B-17.

Bushong said the plane “had the same old noises and (took) the same old power to turn.”
