Green Valley woke up to dark, looming clouds on Aug. 9, 2016, as a massive storm dropped heavy rain between Mexico and northern Pima County.
The soggy weather was caused by moisture from tropical storm Javie. While the storm dumped two inches of rain on parts of Tucson and more than three inches in Rio Rico, the Sahuarita and Green Valley area mostly received about an inch.
As of Tuesday late afternoon, gauges for Pima County’s Regional Flood Control District ALERT System showed 1.02 inches of rain at Continental Road and the Santa Cruz River, and 0.91 inches near Continental north of Mission Road. However, Bruce Lilijegren posted on the Sahuarita Sun Facebook page that his Green Valley home had received more than two inches in a little under two hours.
