Tucson and the nation remembered the 10th anniversary on Friday of the Jan. 8 shootings that took the lives of six people and injured 13 others, including U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords.

Ron Barber, who was Giffords’ district director and was injured in the shooting in 2011, spoke at the ceremony held at the Jan. 8 Memorial west of the Historic Courthouse in El Presidio Park, 115 N. Church Ave. The memorial is called “Embrace,” and tells the story of the lives lost and people wounded at the hand of a gunman at Giffords’ “Congress on Your Corner” event near Tucson. It features sloping walls that depict symbols embodying the values and interests held by each of the six people who died and the 13 survivors.
