Green Valley Fire District crews kept busy donating their time repairing and upgrading a couple of flag poles on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday, a crew from GVFD's station 151 helped the High Pointe neighborhood, 1100 block of Placita Alvina, replace the halyard – the rope – on their flag pole and raised a brand new flag.
On Wednesday, another station 151 crew went to Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery to install a new LED light on the flag pole. Funeral Director Courtney Austin said the new light would allow the cemetery to keep the flag lit at night.
The American Legion Madera Post 131 donated the light to the cemetery.
Post 131 Commander Dan Cady, Maureen Fry and Keith Kackman were on hand to raise the flag after firefighter Frank French finished securing the light at the top of the pole.
