Three people were seriously injured Monday when a Sahuarita school bus blew a tire, drove off of Interstate 19 and hit a parked semi-truck waiting in line at a weigh station at the Canoa Ranch rest area.

No children were aboard the mini-bus; the crash was reported at 1:26 p.m.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the driver of the northbound bus lost control after the blowout, causing it to swerve right, go off the road and through a fence before it tore a hole in the side of the truck.

The drivers of the bus and truck were injured along with a bus monitor. The two drivers were taken to a hospital by ground and one was flown out, according to a Green Valley Fire District spokesman. The injuries were serious but not life-threatening, he said. The truck driver was later released.
