Woodcarver three-time competition winner

Talented and quite modest about his newly acquired woodcarving skills, Green Valley resident Julian “Sonny” Martinez has garnered three first-place awards at the Tucson VA as part of the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition.

Both BAJA leagues' bats swinging

3 ½ Happy Barbers enjoyed the unfamiliar taste of victory on Monday with a win over Premier Property. Norm Friedman, Gary Anderson and Brian Kelley batted 7-for-8 for the day and Dennis Dion capped the win off with his walk off grand slam. On Wednesday, Kelley and Anderson led the team along with Russ Henegar and Wally Towne.

Chorus' spring concert light, uplifting

Solos, small ensembles and the full Green Valley Community Chorus will present their annual Spring Concert — “Come, Sing to Me of Heaven” — on Monday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, March 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Valley Presbyterian Church.

Although the term “gymtimidation” is new, the fear of working out isn’t! Apparently the term started in the UK and has been the topic of a Cosmopolitan Body research poll, as well as an ad campaign for a major fitness chain that guarantees a judgment-free workout zone.

As I See It: You gotta read the small print

I suppose I'm about as patient as the next guy, but things don't always go my way and I sometimes get downright exasperated. Does anyone use the word “exasperated” anymore? I hear folks say they're p****d off, but my editor at the Green Valley News and Sun doesn't like it when I use words like that, so I try to be more genteel in my choice of verbs.
