Census answers for winter visitors

Published: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 9:09 PM MST

Winter visitors who received their Census forms in Green Valley but want to register using the address of their summer homes can find help at the Joyner-Green Valley Branch Library.

According to Census officials, everybody in the country should register by April 1, and register using the address where they spend the bulk of their time. For many Green Valley residents who have not yet returned home for the summer and fall, that presents a problem.

The answer: Head to the library, which is one of the Census Bureau’s “Questionnaire Assistance Centers,” and pick up a blank Census form that allows you to write in the address you want. If you use the preprinted form you received in the mail, you will be counted as an Arizona resident.

" Money for roads, police, etc., etc., comes from the census. The winter "visitors" may want the funds to go to their summer homes, but what about year-round support for Green Valley? We drive here year-round. We depend on the Sheriff's department year-round (and so do they) and we hope they aren't just here to reap the best and forget the rest. "
