Community Columnist: A proud Tea Partier thanks the president

America has rarely witnessed a momentous or important a political event than the ascendancy of Barack Obama to the presidency. For it, many citizens of this nation owe him debt of gratitude. More later on the definition of gratitude as it applies to this event.

Candidate Obama promised “Hope and Change” to an army of devotees drawn to a charisma hiding any real substance or achievement. They embraced what would become unfulfilled promises of health care reform, bipartisanship, transparency, absence of lobbyists, withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, closing of Guantanamo, cuts in spending and elimination of “pork”-packed legislation, improvements in education, lower taxes and a balanced budget.

Grave concerns began surfacing to those who listened closely to his words. Obama said, “I will fundamentally transform America.” Americans found this of concern and wondered about the audacity of a man with absolutely no executive experience to make such a brash statement.

Not coincidentally, Saul Alinsky, Obama’s close friend and fellow radical “community organizer,” preached the same ideology in his book, “Rules for Radicals.” It worried us that our new president seemed to be no more than a Jesse Jackson-style activist, but with oratory skills which, with his friend Alinsky, had been spawned in the cesspool of Chicago politics. Thank you, President Obama.

When President Obama took the oath of office he swore, “... to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution...” Yet previously on a number of occasions, he had stated: “(The Constitution) ... is a charter of negative liberty.” His sworn oath apparently was just meaningless words.

The radical nature of Obama’s agenda became clearer when we witnessed the cabinet appointments of radicals and those of over 30 czars who answered only to him. Tax cheats, radicals and cronies with little background in their appointed roles surged into the administration. Americans heard a wake-up call.

Using Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to complete his American version of a troika, he continued his plans to socialize our nation, beginning with our health care system. His preoccupation with this goal trumped the more urgent matter of the economy and creation of jobs. After 411 televised speeches promoting his version of health care, the citizens’ gag reflexes reacted to having it jammed down their throats and said, “Enough!” The awakening gained momentum.

The wakeup call

An exploding national debt resembling a Madoff ponzi scheme fueled a reaction by the citizens not seen for decades. That concern and the proposed Obamacare plan became a catalyst for what is now known as the Tea Party movement.

Celebrating the rights of free speech and assembly, it began with small gatherings all across America until it grew to millions of citizens. The administration and critics’ response was to ridicule their fellow citizens by referring to them as un-American, an unruly mob and domestic terrorists. This was their only option because there were no leaders they could attack personally. The mainstream media followed this lead and many of them did not cover these events, but insulted the attendees as well. The momentum continued and more and more people joined the chorus of voices and expressed their concerns.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife explained the left’s dilemma. She said, “The establishment is afraid of the grass-root patriots because they don’t know what to think of them or how to deal with them. They have no leader, they are all leaders, they are everywhere, and they are not going away.”

The Tea Party movement supports any candidate who believes in smaller federal government, lower taxes, reduction in national debt and adherence to the Constitution. While respecting the office of the president, they are repudiating the man who occupies the Oval Office. Had Diogenes left the streets of Athens in search of an honest man, and visited Jefferson, Wis., his quest would have been rewarded.

An African American man from Milwaukee came to this small town to be part of the protest. As he proudly joined the Tea Party he displayed his handmade sign that said, “Blame me, I voted for the bastard.” This frustrated man resorted to using harsh words to express his disdain for the man whom he had voted. He is only one of a diverse group of patriotic Americans who are sincerely concerned about the direction of the country.

Who knows best?

The administration’s socialist policies are bad, but the principals behind them are worse. They represent a return to the idea that the American Revolution repudiated: The idea that some are equipped by nature or training to manage the lives of others without their consent. There is an inane view that this administration of average career politicians and cronies possess an acuity greater than that of the combined whole of 300 million citizens.

Read the words of Abraham Lincoln from 1864:

“We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others, the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and the product of other men’s labor. Here are two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name - Liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatible names - liberty and tyranny.”

The ascendancy of Barrack Obama to the presidency of the United States of America has stirred a slumbering populous that in the past has been complacent and uninvolved. With his ineptness as a leader, and failed policies based on far left and radical policies, we are grateful to President Obama for awakening America.

We have let it be known that we are willing to be governed by patriots, not by tyrants. Millions will continue to mobilize for the purpose of taking back this great democratic country.

“The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.” Frederick Douglass

" Does Mr. Meinert ever say anything?
Again he takes advantage of this page, to see how many times he can use the words radical and socialist, and names like Alinsky, Reid and Pelosi.I'm surprised he didn't find a way to include Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.
As a representative of the tea party movement, he's a poster boy for those who support nothing, but oppose everything, with as many slogans and as much rhetoric as possible thrown in.
He will continue to amuse everyone from moderate Republicans to the far left, and to appease everyone on his side of the looking glass. We encourage him i to continue his never ending diatribe , on the basis that open minded independents will have another look at the far right, and decide that they want nothing to do with it.
Elections are coming later this year, and he and the rest of the "nattering nabobs of negativity" may be late for a very important date. "

" A simple comment. The massive debt that you refer to was caused by the Bush administration's reckless disregard for the pay-as-you-go policies of the Clinton administration. Sorry! History doesn't support your gleeful rewriting. And while you are rereading history, show me a plan that will cover the 50 million Americans just like you that need health care. You and I are currently paying for them in our rising insurance bills. Let's get them out of the emergency rooms and into preventative health care that will benefit us all! "

" Gosh! Sounds just like a poor loser to me who only thinks of "taking" back the country for a political party. Taking it back from what? Oh! please. I will not remind the readers of such a time in our country . They remember quite well. Gary seems to only have memory of American history. "

" Yes, the 3rd paragraph in your commentary should have been a wake up for the entire country, however, the major problem was that the Republican Party had no spokesperson, other than Sarah Pahlin, who saw Obama and his plans/dreams for this Country...for what they now are...A NIGHTMARE.

But, we have only been exposed to one year...just think of how inspired we will all be after 3 more years.

2008...THE YEAR OF THE GREAT AMERICAN HOAX...THE ELECTION OF BARACK OBAMA, OR BARRY OR WHOEVER HE IS.... "

" Title: An open letter to our Congressional Representative.

I recently received a form letter response from the office of Rep Gabrielle touting the arrival of stimulus money into southern Arizona. I had to respond to her office with a letter that included the following comments:

Dear Rep Gabrielle,
If you really believe tripling and quadrupling the national debt is a solution to stabilizing our economy, and that wasting a year on an attempt to replace the best health care system in the world instead of fixing its problem areas are the best use of your time, you need to actually walk the streets of your district and talk to the people who are really hurting. You and your colleagues should have been focusing 100% of your energy on the two major disaster areas that have continued to cripple the southern part of our state and our entire nation since the beginning day of the Obama administration – jobs and housing. Your forum letter below is a prime example of your waste of a great personal career opportunity – an opportunity for you to have made a real difference in the lives of your constituents.

What I know to be a fact is that many, many of my friends and neighbors are out of work for the first time in their lives – quote all the “created or saved” jobs you want – keep your head in the sand until November. In my view, the stimulus legislation was fraught with pork, and the majority of it has been “saved” until 2010 to support your and your colleagues’ reelection campaigns.

Tax cuts you talk of are great if you have a job and the bank has not taken your home – I challenge you to gather and report the number of personal residence foreclosures in your district alone. Then see how proud you are of your Congressional handy work. See if that changes your claims of success to some admissions that speak to the majority of your constituents and their families that who have been touched by foreclosure and job loss.

You talk of transparency and accountability, but most of the errors in reporting can be shown to be outright deceptions rather than errors. You talk about fiscal responsibility, let me ask when is the last time you met with the Arizona Board of Appraisers to discuss why homes are all being appraised at foreclosure values, no matter how stable the buyer is – Ridiculous – two simple fixes could remedy this overnight: (1) require the buyer to be fully qualified to make the purchase and (2) require that no appraisal be made below replacement costs of the property in today’s market.

Thank you for your form letter reporting all of that supposed success.

" I always find it odd, reading "Proud Democrat" on people's beautiful cars that they just ruined, by putting on a sticker and that one in particular.
What prey tell are you proud of? How he is destroying our country? Wasting our money? It was so obvious before being elected what the furture would bring, He is who his associates are. Remember, your mother telling you that you were known by the company you keep?.
He should have never been a candidate, but that was the best they had. A man with no experience, a bad senator and I needn't go on. Let's hope he's a one term Presiden., "

" Carlo, my friend, Medicare and Social Security are broke. Why in heavens name would we replace two broke systems with another one?

Why not fix them, Carlo, so there is something there for our kids and grandkids? After all, they are the ones who will have to pay for this Obama disaster. "

Ampat wrote on Mar 1, 2010 5:19 PM:

" Carlo: You just don't seem to get it so someone should explain it to you. Yes, medicare and Social Security are Socialistic. But, it's our money that they're giving back to us, in most instances, much less then we've paid in. So, I say, collect what is ours. That is still NO reason for adding more socialistic junk. It's for those two examples you gave that we don't want anymore of it. they are bankrupt ! If we don't want SS or Medicare we should be able to opt out of it. Had I invested in the market the amount I put into SS, I would have been able to retire when I was 45. We're creating a dependent society of people who just depend on others. That isn't right nor healthy for the nation. NO socialistic country has survived or are healthy in any way. Hope you understand, Comrade. "

AmPat wrote on Mar 1, 2010 5:32 PM:

" Golfer2: How do you think Bush caused Obama to build up the largest budget in the history of our country? ... well into the trillions of dollars. Bush expenses were unbelievable and over the top but Obama is making it look like trump change. Golfer2, were looking at Obama's debt. "

Searcher wrote on Mar 1, 2010 10:10 PM:

" Mike, where did you come up with the crazy notion that the tea baggers are funded by anyone? That's what is so unique about them. They are not obligated to anyone. They are backing some democrats as well as republicans because of their adherence to the rule of law and the constitution. Both parties are trying to snuggle up to them and it can't (won't) be accepted. There are NO leaders and everyone pays their own way. Deal with the facts, Mike, and leave the lies to the media. "

B.N. Kate wrote on Mar 1, 2010 10:36 PM:

" My dear Tea Party fellow citizens of the United States: would we have roads without cooperative efforts? Should everyone just have to save up for a house fire? Should we abandon the inspection of food and the testing of drugs for safety? Income taxes are lower than ever before since enacted -- and two wars conducted by this country are left unpaid for as a result. Obama cut taxes for 95% of Americans his first month in office to try and revive the economy. What could make you happy - no roads no education no social security? The health care proposal will force insurance companies to compete for our insurance dollars - hardly socialistic. My 22 year old with asthma cannot buy health insurance coverage - I expect my government to change unfair, monopolistic trade practices!
Obama is working within the confines of the US Constitution and calls for public debate. You are not taxed without representation. Try listening to more than one news channel and reading more than one newspaper. If your TV news channel is making you feel angry - it might be on purpose! "

Libby wrote on Mar 2, 2010 8:47 AM:

" Wrong you are, Ampat. You aren't "collecting what is ours"... your payments went pay for those who were using Social Security and Medicare at the time you were paying in, some of whom never paid in. Now, we have an underemployed or unemployed generation having to support a population boom of old folks who feel entitled (look in the mirror). Remember, Ampat, many of those collecting today also never paid in at all. Most collect many times what they paid in because of extreme medical expenses and often because of unnecessary tests and unneeded drugs. So next time you spend your SS check or your neighbor lady who's never earned a wage gets a new hip, thank those of us who struggle to pay our mortgages, fund health insurance profittakers and pay into SS and Medicare to make your generation comfortable. I for one am sick of the "NO" party and those who selfishly oppose reform because they've got theirs and to H with those who "depend on others" as you write. "

Ampat wrote on Mar 2, 2010 9:31 AM:

" Libby, let me get this straight. I paid thousands upon thousands of dollars into SS with the full intent of no return? Are you out of your mind? Read FDR's original plan for SS and you will see how our government has gone nuts with the money. The companies I owned paid hundreds of thousands of dollars into the system in addition to my own. Don't lecture unless you have complete knowledge of what you speak. Thank you Ms."B" "
