Published: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 11:34 AM MST

Judith Smith, 51, of Tucson, was cited Jan. 14 for shoplifting. Officers were called to Wal-Mart after a witness had observed Smith with empty boxes in a dressing room. The officers asked for the right to search Smith’s brown backpack, which she gave. The officers found teeth-cleaning kits and a tube of toothpaste. When police asked why she didn’t take responsibility, she claimed that the officers were asking her about cosmetics. She was cited for shoplifting and given a court date of Feb. 16.

Cases below were heard by Judge Maria Avilez on Jan. 19 unless otherwise noted. Information was supplied by the town of Sahuarita and the Arizona Supreme Court Web site.
