Holiday Events: A December to remember

From the ballet to a boys choir, festivals to shopping, Green Valley and Sahuarita are welcoming the Christmas season with just about everything but snow (and maybe that will happen, too!)

Here’s some of what’s going on the next few weeks. Look for event listings in each paper and an expanded listing in Entertainment Special on Wednesdays.

Dec. 4

Continental Shopping Plaza Holiday Open House

Merchant sales 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; gift certificates, drawings, country singer Tom Chambers at 5 p.m.; 6 p.m. Tucson Arizona Boys’ Chorus performance. Free, but bring a can of food for the Community Food Bank. Interstate 19 and Continental Road.

The Nutcracker Ballet

Ballet Continental presents a Christmas favorite to the music of Tchaikovsky at Sahuarita School District Auditorium. 520-326-7887.

Dec. 4-5

Luminaria Nights-Fiesta de Navidad

From sunset to 9 p.m., Tubac’s annual celebration of the holiday season! Streets are lined with luminaries and stores are open late. Tubac Center of the Arts is holding its Holiday Artisans Market through Jan. 3 with hundreds of hand-crafted items for sale, 9 Plaza Road, Tubac.

Dec. 5

Sahuarita Pecan Festival

Inaugural festival with arts and crafts, food and wine vendors, desserts, hay rides (free with canned food for Community Food Bank), fun for everybody. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 1625 E. Sahuarita Road; sahuaritapecanfestival.com or 520-879-7453.

Nogales Christmas Parade & Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

A festival featuring Santa Claus and his reindeer, a children’s parade and the lighting of a 30-foot Christmas tree; 7 p.m. Nogales Chamber of Commerce, 520-287-3685.

Dec. 13

Green Valley Concert Band

“Winter Wonderland of Great Holiday Music,” 7 p.m. at Sahuarita School District Auditorium, 350 W. Sahuarita Road. Information, directions: www.greenvalleyconcertband.org or 520-399-2311

Dec. 14-15

Sounds of the Season

The Green Valley Community Chorus marks its 35th season with two concerts, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at Valley Presbyterian Church. 520-867-8307.

Dec. 16

Tubac Singers Christmas Concert

At the Tumac‡cori Mission; first concert sold out, second will be added if there is demand (no date/time set). Waiting list/information: Tubac Center of the Arts 520-398-2371

Dec. 19

Happy Holidays with the TSO

The Tucson Symphony Orchestra Pops entertains at the GVR West Center at 7 p.m. 520-625-3440.

Winter Festival

Catch the holiday spirit from 2-7 p.m. at Sahuarita Lake Park. The town of Sahuarita and Rancho Sahuarita present Santa and Mrs. Claus, elves, an ice rink, a train, roaming Christmas carolers and luminaries. 520-822-8896.

Sons Of Orpheus

A concert at the Community Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. 520-399-1750.
