NewsCarol Cullen, executive director of the Tubac Chamber of Commerce for six years, is resigning in December. Cullen said there have been difficulties in the position, and “the challenges you face and the frequency of the challenges will make a difference” in how long a person can be effective. Cullen added, “I can move on feeling good about what we accomplished.” Cullen submitted a letter of resignation Nov. 20 to the chamber’s board of directors. Susan Walsh, board president, said, “It was with a very heavy heart that I and the board members accepted her letter.” Walsh said she asked Cullen to work until Dec. 18. Cullen and her husband, Bruce Pheneger, are Tubac residents and she said they plan to remain in the community. She said she doesn’t have another job. Walsh said it will be difficult to fill Cullen’s shoes. “She’s done so much for this community,” she said. “She’s so caring and talented and so well-educated on every subject that relates to the chamber.” Reach the writer at kathleenvan@msn.com.

According to a more recent article in this paper, about yet more major drug busts, the Tucson sector is responsible for finding 47% of all illegal drugs found in this state. Ms. Cullen and her cohorts would have preferred to let those drugs flow freely through our communities so that the few in Tubac would not have to be the least bit bothered by the reality of the Border Patrol presence. Let us hope that a mature adult replaces her, and not some NIMBY. " Submit a Comment |
