MARY LOUISE AHMANN, 93, of Green Valley, went home to be with her Lord on Oct. 29, 2009.

Mary Lou was born in Montgomery City, Mo. on March 21, 1916. She was the daughter of Harry Chester Black and Mary Gupton Black. She grew up in Independence, Kan. and graduated from Kansas State University in 1938.

On Nov. 25, 1943, she married Kenneth R. Ahmann. She and Kenneth lived in St. Charles, Mo. until 1992, when they retired to Green Valley.

While in St. Charles, Mary Lou was devoted to community service. Her community services included: elected as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, leader in the Girl Scouts of America, member of the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross and being Chairwoman of the Bloodmobile Program, President and member of the Board of Directors of the St. Charles County Historical Society, member of the Board of Directors of the Mid East Area Agency on Aging, founder and president of the Board of Directors of the Odell Center for Senior Citizens, co-founder of Meals on Wheels in St. Charles and a Chapter and State President of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO Sisterhood).

Her community service was recognized in 1953 by being the first woman in St. Charles named as “Citizen of the Years,” an award given by the Chamber of Commerce to individuals who have provided at least 20 or more years of outstanding community service.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; sister Martha Ann Humann; her husband; and a great-granddaughter Kirsten Grace Ahmann.

She is survived by her two sons: Gerald B. Ahmann M.D., Ph.D. (Judith) of Medford, Ore. and Frederick R. Ahmann, M.D. (Marie) of Tucson. She is also survived by five grandchildren Derek R. Ahmann (Sanya), Gregory B. Ahmann (Kimberly), Rebecca. M. Strunk (Joel), Brian H. Ahmann and Mark F. Ahmann (Emily); and nine great-grandchildren.


A memorial service is planned to celebrate her life at the Valley Presbyterian Church, Spiritual Life Center, 2800 S. Camino del Sol in Green Valley at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009. Following the service, for those who wish to attend, there will be a reception with a light lunch provided.
