A worker at the Asarco mine west of Sahuarita was seriously injured Monday night when his arm was caught in a conveyer belt and partially severed, according to Pima County Sheriff’s reports.

The 45-year-old man was flown to a Tucson hospital where he may have had his arm amputated, the report said. The accident occurred around 10 p.m., and details were sketchy.

A medical helicopter had trouble landing near the entrance to the mine along Pima Mine Road because of low power lines and traffic, and eventually landed in the parking lot of the Desert Diamond Casino, according to the report.
