Dead dog leads to drug citation

A dead dog helped lead to a drug citation for a Sahuarita woman.

A neighbor taking a walk around Sahuarita Lake Park last month saw the dog on the back porch of a home in the 15000 block of South Camino Agua Azul. The next day, Oct. 28, the neighbor saw the dog in the same position and called police, who went to the door and got no answer, but saw the dog on the back porch.

Animal Control arrived and said there was no violation, though the dog was dead.

Neighbors told police the home has a history of police calls over the past two months. While police were standing out front, Amber R. Rodriguez-Gutierrez, 19, opened the front door and looked around, according to records.

Police told her they had been told about drugs in the house and asked to come in and look around and she said yes. Police saw a hookah (an elaborate water pipe) on a table in the master bedroom and asked to look in a dresser drawer and found a water pipe. They discovered residue on each pipe, asked Rodriguez-Gutierrez who the pipes belonged to and she said they were hers.

She was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Drugs other than tobacco?

I thought Hookah's were legal? They have several hookah lounges in Tucson... "

" Never, never, ever consent to a search. They must have a search warrant or you simply say no. If they threaten to get a search warrant, tell them to go ahead. They'll back off right away. Know your rights. "
