A worker at the Asarco mine west of Sahuarita was seriously injured Monday night when his arm was caught in a conveyer belt and partially severed, according to Pima County Sheriff’s reports.

The 45-year-old man was flown to a Tucson hospital where he may have had his arm amputated, the report said. The accident occurred around 10 p.m., and details were sketchy.

A medical helicopter had trouble landing near the entrance to the mine along Pima Mine Road because of low power lines and traffic, and eventually landed in the parking lot of the Desert Diamond Casino, according to the report.

" Asarco has always been sketchy when it comes to accidents or financial trouble. This is one mine that should be hit with inspections regarding it's operations. The dust from the tailings are horrendous when its windy too. Its not Freeport's dust but Asarco's.

Do you know what they told a friend of mine when he lost 3 fingers up there working?
To be quiet about it and here is some money, go see a doctor. "
