Betty was raised in Washington State and moved to Green Valley in 1987, where she has lived since. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Also preceding her was her husband Ralph W. Johnson. She is survived by her brother Jack (Joy) Woodward of Sumner, Wash.; a number of nieces and nephews; her children Mary J. (Ben) Swanson of Hilton Head Island, S.C., John R. (Diana) Carlile Jr. of Winlock, Wash., Laurel (Brian) McDaniel of Huntsville, Ala. and Betsy (Bill) Jessiman of Dallas, Texas. Nana was much loved and will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren Lars Swanson, Joel Swanson, Jon Swanson, Debra Hill, Keith Carlile, David Carlile, Leslie McDaniel, Julie McDaniel, Stephanie Stowell, Suzanne McShane, Tamara Jessiman, Alec Jessiman and Peter Jessiman. She also was Nana to 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She had many wonderful and caring friends in Green Valley. Special thanks to Kathleen Martinson, Katherina Harder and Ted Brink for many years of good friendship and good times. There will be a celebration of Betty’s long and rich life in Green Valley in February 2010 when she would have been 93. Betty will be interred in Sumner, Wash. with her parents.
