LettersEditor: As a regular bicyclist in and around Green Valley it pains me to say this but — cyclists can be clueless jerks, too. A case in point is an incident that happened about 2:45 Monday afternoon at the intersection of La Canada and Esperanza. My wife and I were driving west on Esperanza and were making a left turn (with the green arrow) when a male cyclist came cruising eastward down Esperanza and crossed La Canada (against a red light) directly in front of us. Only my wife’s quick reflexes and a vigorous evasive action prevented this man from becoming a very ugly statistic. As a result I’d like to offer these suggestions to said cyclist: 1. Check your eye doctor about the need for a new prescription. 2. Verify that your insurance policy covers death and dismemberment. 3. Visit a psychiatrist on the general subjects of suppressed death wishes and an overdeveloped sense of entitlement. Cycling in Green Valley is challenging enough. Doing it without your brain engaged is downright suicidal. Jerry Norbury, Green Valley

I have seen some amazing displays of downright stupidity and recklessness. The user's dependence on the reflexes of the car-driving public is frightening. Granted, there are only a few bad apples, but they are really spoiling the barrel. " Submit a Comment |
