Fur and hamburgers

Editor:

Mr. Shearer, I really used to enjoy your articles in the Green Valley News.

However, after reading your column titled “Swastikas, flags and talk radio,” I was so upset that I had to write this letter to you.

It is not about swastikas. I do agree with you that they should not be displayed since they might offend some people in particular.

It is not about flags since I do agree that the American flag should be displayed with pride and honor.

It is not about talk radio since I don’t listen to any program like that anyway.

It is about cruelty to animals. Specifically, it is about PETA and all the great jobs they do to help any animal in distress.

I would like to ask you to watch the videos that were taken at several factories by hidden cameras. There is the one about how the rabbit’s fur is taken off their skins while still alive.

There is also the one about the last hours of a cow left to die out in the field and how she was mangled by dogs while still alive.

There is also the one about how the baby seals are hooked by their eyes (so they won’t damage the fur) and clubbed in front of their terrified mothers so they can supply fur to demanding people like yourself and/or the ones you are advocating for.

This is regarding to your comment on your article were you say that “PETA needs to understand that some people like fur and hamburgers...”

Tell that to the agonizing rabbits, the suffering cows and the terrified seals.

Oh, and by the way, if you decide to watch those videos at www.peta.org please do it on an empty stomach and tell me if you were able to sleep comfortably on your fur blanket and your stomach full of hamburger meat.

" Suzette, I despise animal cruelty. I grew up on a farm/ranch and love all animals. About 20 years ago a sibling worked in a university laboratory that experimented using animal subjects. It wasnt for cosmetics and in wasn't cruel in any way. The animals used were lambs. They were treated very well and were actually like pets to my sibling and others who worked there. One late night a group broke into the lab, trashed the lab, brutally killed the lambs and smeared in blood their organizations name on walls, doors and floors. The name they wrote was PETA. They were caught and shockingly were indeed PETA members. For me they remain a home-grown terrorist group. While they appear to do good works, there is a dark side to them. Many times they take things out of context or film things out of context or don't tell the whole story in order to incite anger or shock. I agree animal abuse exists wherever animals exist. However, I don't believe PETA is good chamnpion for the cause. "
