ObituariesDAVID PAUL BLOOM
Oct. 5, 1934 - Nov. 5, 2009 Dave was born to parents Bill and Thelma on Oct. 5, 1934, and was raised in Lake Park, Minn. After graduating high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served two years at Ladd Air Base in Alaska. Upon leaving the military, he married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Berland, and they moved to North Dakota where he pursued his engineering degree. After graduating in 1959, he was employed by HDR, where he worked for the next 30 years. He left HDR to start his own construction management business, Bloom & Assoc., and managed projects in both Omaha, Neb. and St. Cloud, Minn. Dave believed the best year of his life was spent designing and building his and Darlene’s dream home on Potato Lake, just outside Park Rapids, Minn. Together they enjoyed many years in their lakeside home, where their four daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren visited frequently. Dave loved RVing, playing all types of cards, hunting, fishing and golf. His and Darlene’s love of golf carried them to Green Valley, where they moved permanently in 1999. They joined the Green Valley Country Club where they enjoyed many rounds of golf and met many new friends. Dave passed away at home, after a 15 -month battle with leukemia, with his family at his side. He leaves behind Darlene, his beloved wife of 53 years; and four daughters: Sandra (Bill) Fruhwirth, Nancy (Dave) Stroud, Susan (Dave) Olsen, Laurie (John) LoBue; and seven grandchildren: Kimberly, Michael, Brian, JoAnne, Sara, Ross and Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at Desert Hills Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Food will be served at the church immediately following the service. The family asks that those who wish to send a memorial for Dave should donate to the charity of their choice.
