Local writers group seeks authors for book fair

Fiction, historical fiction, short stories, humor, memoirs, poetry and children’s chapter books are some of the genres local authors will exhibit and sell at the Society of Southwestern Authors Santa Cruz Valley Chapter first Local Authors Book Fair on Dec. 5.

Vice President Marilyn Pate said as the chapter has grown and more and more local readers and writers came to their monthly meetings, they realized the enormous creativity in the area.

“There are so many people who have done so many wonderful things, including writing books,” she said.

That realization has been the genesis for the First Local Authors Book Fair.

“It will be a book fair where the public can talk with local authors ... where people can get guidance on how to publish and self-publish.”

About two dozen authors have registered to display and sell their books, chapter president Denise Roessle said. There is room for about 40.

An author does not need to be a member of the Society of Southwestern Authors to display and exhibit.

Pate said the book fair will give exposure to local authors at a low cost — $5 for a half table and $10 for a whole table.

“It’s a way to catch the public’s eye... to let the public know we exist and that the joy of reading is alive and well.

“People read a lot in Green Valley and we want them to plug into this.

“There’s so much talent right here.”
