The Sahuarita Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a study session on sign standards at its Monday meeting and is seeking public input on freeway signs, among others.
The Town Council months ago asked the commission to research new sign standards as part of an effort to update the town sign ordinance after discovering that the current rules do not allow signs higher than 15 feet along the freeway, for example, and limit what kinds of businesses can post signs there.
The issue came to light after Rancho Sahuarita proposed 85-foot-tall signs near Sahuarita Road. Any new sign ordinance could affect signs near Duval Mine Road and Interstate 19, for example.
The Monday meeting includes only a study session on signs. A formal public hearing will be scheduled in the future.
The commission also will discuss zoning enforcement at its meeting, which is at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Council chambers in Town Hall. The agenda will be posted at www.ci.sahuarita.az.us under Agenda and Documents.
Other agenda items include time extensions for plan amendments and establishing an expiration date for planning and zoning applications.
