NewsPaws Patrol unveils 2010 cat calendar
By Jeannie Applegate, Special to the Green Valley NewsPaws Patrol of Green Valley’s 2010 calendar is now on sale in Green Valley, Tubac and Arivaca, and will help the non-profit group continue to carry out its mission. Paws Patrol rescues, fosters and find homes for pets, and also reduces the feral cat population by the trap-neuter-return process. Patti Hogan, the group’s president, said the fall fundraiser also helps pay veterinarian expenses. The calendars are $12 and are tax-deductible. “The Paws Patrol 2010 calendar is truly unique since it features cats, both domestic and feral, that we have trapped within our own community,” she said. “It even tells what became of the cats that are featured, whether they went to homes or to one of our barns.” Hogan said in the past three years the organization has sterilized more than 700 cats and placed 40 percent of the tame cats in adoptive homes. But she said more than 40 tame cats are still in foster homes. “There are also cats available as barn or warehouse cats,” she said. Cats can be viewed at www.greenvalleypawspatrol.org. In addition, some of the cats will be at the Cat Adoption Fair on Nov. 15 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Green Valley Canine, 750 Camino Casa Verde. “So far, in using the grant funds we received for Arivaca, we have held two spay/neuter days there and ‘fixed’ and vaccinated about 50 cats,” she said.
