Guest Comment: Keep our dollars here

As a local business owner for the past 13 years, I know the importance of keeping what little revenue exists here, in the Green Valley/ Sahuarita areas in these difficult times.

This is why I write to inform local business owners and homeowners to shop and buy locally whenever possible.

I noticed just this week a new business in Sahuarita is going to open using labor, contractors, and material all from the Tucson area.

Now I know a lot of these things go out for bid, but why don’t they contact local businesses that support our community at the first opportunity.

I know that my pricing is the same or cheaper than my competitors in Tucson in most cases. I check pricing quarterly to be sure I can give our community the best price available. as I am sure the other local businesses do as well.

To add insult to injury I have personally seen contractors from plumbers, air conditioning companies, electricians, landscapers, and landscape material all come from Tucson at two malls.

Do we not have any of these services here locally? Why are we not supporting our community?

Our local newspaper is full of local contractors that support Green Valley/Sahuarita.

Thanks to the MedianGreen people for using local landscape companies to do south La Canada beautification project.

Thank you for showing your support and thank you to all of you that do support us locally.

In this era of a failing economy does it not make sense to support the local businesses that contribute so much to our community?

Also when you hire a contractor to do work for you, you can insist on using local businesses, just insist on that before you sign any contract to ensure you that your money is going and staying in the communities that you love so much.

I advertise in every local publication, also with the Chamber of Commerce.

I have donated to countess schools and community organizations and always helped our community in need even when things have been hard, all with no apparent positive impact on these issues.

I have been there for our community.

How about you?
