Pay Atchison a visit

Published: Saturday, November 7, 2009 6:15 PM MST

Editor:

It was a great pleasure for me to see the front page article on the movie “Amelia.” I visited Atchison, Kan., in early May while visiting my hometown of St. Joseph, Mo., just across the Missouri River and 12 miles north.

My longtime friend and room mate at the U of M and I went over to Atchison to visit the museum and downtown area. There is no doubt at all that the small town of about 12,000 is making the celebration of Amelia Earhart a major event for everybody. They obtained money to build a new bridge which will be named the Amelia Earhart bridge, are making sure the downtown area is pristine, and are polishing the museum and four-year Catholic University, and plenty of flags are flying!

If you want a few hours of old- time pleasures, stop by Atchison, Kan. I’m planning on doing just that.
