Christmas Tree vandalism

Published: Saturday, November 7, 2009 6:15 PM MST

Editor:

Twin Buttes Properties Inc. and its predecessors have been pleased to have the Christmas Tree on our property glowing each year for the enjoyment of all those in the community who see it.

However, each year it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the tree due to vandalism. The strands of wire that contain the light bulbs are lowered each year and wrapped to protect them from summer rains and storms. This year, several of the strands were set on fire and some of the control wiring was also burned.

The “tree” is 110 feet tall so it necessitates us having to rent expensive equipment to be able to reach the top of the tree to replace wires and rope on pulleys that hoist the lights to the top of the tree.

Perhaps concerned citizens of the community can be on the lookout for trespassers in the area of the tree and report it to the Sheriff’s Department so that appropriate action can be taken,

Hershel McGriff, president Twin Buttes Properties Inc.
