To get rid of all those credit card offers you get in the mail, go online to OptOutPrescreen.com. It really works.
If everyone said “no” to ATM receipts, it would save a roll of paper so long it could circle the equator 15 times.
Double up on printing. You know those extra pages you get when printing one simple e-mail? Turn it over and print on the other side, too.
Save paper by changing the margins from 1 inch to 0.5 inch. Paper accounts for at least 24 percent of landfill waste.

Green Valley should allow people to dry their clothes on clothes lines. Dryers take so much energy, and towels dry so quickly in the Arizona air and sun. An old technology to help solve a new problem: clothes lines!

Hot water tanks should be centrally located or nearest the location that uses the greatest amount of water.
Pipes should be insulated throughout the house, particularly hot water pipes.
Use an underground cistern to catch the roof run-off from rain.
Separate pipes can be used to direct gray water from basins, showers and washing machines. A simple handle-type valve could be shut off when the cistern becomes full, thereby directing the gray water to the sewer or leach field.

Vehicles should be used as a necessity and not a luxury. I have encouraged my family to stroll to the library, the grocery store, the bank and health center in my neighborhood. I use my bicycle for farther distances and my car seldom.
Minimize the use of electricity by turning off all unnecessary appliances and security bulbs during the day and slightly tilting the window blinds during the day to brighten rooms, parlors and the kitchen instead of putting the bulbs on.
