Wildfire burning outside Arivaca
A 500-acre wildfire burning six miles southwest of Arivaca in the Coronado National Forest was expected to be contained Wednesday.
The Lesna Fire, named after a peak in the area, started Sunday afternoon and was fanned early on by strong wind. The cause is unknown but the point of origin has been pinpointed and an investigator has been assigned, according to a Forest Service spokeswoman.
More than 50 firefighters, including several from Tubac and Arivaca, were on the scene.
The fire is burning in grass, oak and desert scrub in “very rugged terrain.” It was 500 acres and about 40 percent contained early Tuesday and was expected to grow another 250 acres. Crews spent much of Tuesday constructing about two miles of fire line. Smoke was expected to be visible throughout the day.
