Flag etiquette

Published: Saturday, October 31, 2009 8:05 PM MST

Editor:

I was horrified to see on the news today the ad on health care that the Democratic National Committee is considering.

What an insult to our flag and to all Americans. Our flag is a sacred symbol of our country and the sacrifices made by those since the Revolutionary War for our freedom.

From www.usflag.org/flagetiquette: The flag should never have placed on it, or attached to it, any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind.

" Great letter Cindy. A flag that was torn to tatters, filthy and flown at night without illumination was recently removed from a building on Esperanza. From what I could tell it had been there for quite some time. I don't understand how anyone could pass by that flag day after day without noticing the disrespect that was so evident. I got lucky. I did not have to put a letter in the GVN. I got help from the Asst. Vice Pres. of Compass Bank. No one seemed to know who the flag belonged to but my thanks go to her for finding out and a few days later the flag was removed. I have made it my task to see that all American Flags are flown according to the Protocol and Flag Etiguette. Nice to know that at least 2 of us care enough to speak out. "

" Thank You, Cindy and Peg for your patriotism and for sharing your knowledge of flag etiquette. All Americans need to appreciate our national symbol and treat it with the respect it is due. "
