CCGV names new pro, club manager

SportsBig changes are taking place at the Country Club of Green Valley. This week, Ed Bittle was named the new club professional, as he takes over for Joel Jaress, who recently stepped down. In addition, Jessica Rojas was promoted from the director of membership (a position she held for the last four years) and will take over the club manager role. “It’s a really exciting time right now,” Rojas said. “We have a lot of new things planned.” Bittle comes to the Country Club with 13 years of pro experience under his belt. He was recommended for the position based on the strength of his work at Arthur Pack (now known as Crooked Tree) in Tucson, as well as his time as the assistant pro at the Tubac Golf Resort. He was first bitten by the golf bug as a youth growing up near a driving range in Bermerton, Wash. The beautiful weather and year-round golfing capabilites brought him to Arizona to teach the game. “What I like about Ed is he doesn’t try to change your swing,” said club member Jack Johnson. “He builds on what you already have and what you do well.” Bittle said his early impression of the Country Club is the tight-knit atmosphere among the membership, which will be on full display with today’s pig roast hosted by Bill and Barbara Gundersen to thank the CCGV maintenance crew. “For most of our members, the golf course is like a home away from home,” Rojas said. Things kick into high gear with the club’s member/guest tournament, which gets rolling next week, along with the men’s and women’s club championships and the Nike demo. In addition, Rojas and Bittle are particularly excited about the club’s youth golf program, which will get a big push in the middle of November. nprevenas@gvnews.com | 547-9747
