DONALD L. RIORDAN, 82, passed away at his home in Green Valley on Oct. 24, 2009.

He is survived by Aloha Riordan, his wife of 38 years; children Donald B. Riordan, Cynthia Delliquadri, and Geoffrey Riordan; grandchildren Morgan Delliquadri, Jennifer Clinton and Annie Riordan; and great-grandchildren Dominic and Dimitri Delliquadri, and Jackson and Addison Clinton.

He joined the U.S. Navy at 17, and served in the South Pacific during WWII. When he left the Navy, he enrolled at Arizona State University in Phoenix where he was recruited by the U.S. Army. He liked the military so he went to Officer’s Candidate School and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant.

He was provost marshal in Heidelberg, Germany. On returning to the U.S., he was trained as a fixed-wing and helicopter pilot, tank driver, as well as other occupations. He retired from the Army with the rank of Major, then joined the California National Guard, where he was a flight line officer in Long Beach. He retired in 1987.

He and his wife have been residents of Green Valley for 18 years.

He will be honored with a genuine Irish wake in California in November. He will be interned in May at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
