NewsTime has changed but not in Arizona Leaves swirl. Autumn’s chill is in the air. It must be time to set the clock back — except in Arizona. The official change to Standard Time occurred at 2 a.m. Sunday, though most folks changed their clocks Saturday night. Some states and territories don’t observe Daylight-Saving Time. Those are Arizona, which is on Mountain time, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas. However, the change in time will affect Arizona’s television schedule. NFL games that have been airing at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. will move to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today, and any cable television show will air an hour later, as well. This will not affect television programs airing on broadcast networks, such as CBS, ABC, NBC and FOX. Daylight-Saving Time returns next March 13. Golf tournament to aid disabled vets The Border Patrol and the Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to help raise money for Disabled Veterans at our Defenders Of Our Freedom Golf Tournament. The Chamber is selling Adopt-A-Ball 50/50 Raffle Tickets at a cost of $5. With each ticket sold the corresponding number is put on a golf ball and the numbered golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter onto the driving range at Canoa Ranch on Nov. 11, at the Defenders Of Our Freedom Golf Event. The owner of the ball that lands closest to the pin goes home the winner of the 50/50 Adopt a Golf Ball Raffle. Because the golf balls will be dropped prior to the Shotgun Start, raffle tickets must be purchased no later than 5 p.m. Nov. 10. Tickets may be purchased at American Legion Post 66, Green Valley Nursery, Twist and Shout or the Green Valley Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce. Information: Chamber, 520-625-7575 . County to consider food fat issue, Catino nomination The Pima County Board on Tuesday will consider a resolution asking restaurants to voluntarily stop using trans-fats and will vote on adding Chuck Catino of Green Valley to the Pima County Parks and Recreation Commission. Catino, a leader of the Born Again Jocks Association (BAJA), which has been working to get county bond funding for a new public park in Green Valley, was nominated by County Supervisor Ray Carroll (R.-District 4) The restaurant resolution is not binding, but says that restaurants should stop using trans-fats, such as partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, because they have been found in scientific studies to be unhealthy and are in numerous popular foods, such as pizza, french fries and pastries. The resolution notes that the Food and Drug Administration has required that trans fats be listed on packaged foods since 2006, but that restaurants, bakeries, and school and hospital cafeterias are exempt from the listing requirement.
