The disdainful attitude of Samaya Jones towards seniors and teabaggers in her “Open Letter to Our Seniors” (Guest Comment, Oct. 25) is both disgusting and disingenuous.
She says she cannot imagine why the people of this country do not want health care for all citizens. What a preposterous thing to say.
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t believe our health care system needs changes. What it doesn’t need is to be taken over by the government.
The government produces NOTHING; its job is to regulate what we taxpayers fund.
We have only to look at the Social Security System, Medicare, U.S. Postal System, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Amtrak to realize the politicians are incapable of regulating or running any program of significance.
Why? Because it’s not their money! Under the guise of providing something wonderful they keep their constituents content so they can be re-elected year after year.
The teabaggers, Ms. Jones, are millions of your fellow Americans who object to government’s uncontrolled spending and tyrannical takeover of every aspect of our lives.
These teabaggers are peacefully protesting according to their constitutional rights and we should be proud of them.
Instead of honoring their right to protest, our congressional leaders, Reid and Pelosi, are calling them un-American, racists and domestic terrorists.
Under similar circumstances many countries around the world would have to take up arms to protest their government’s actions.
Those opposed to the war, and those who had an uncontrollable hatred of President Bush, went to the streets, and in many cases, violently opposed the war and him.
Did you refer to them as “bushbaggers”?
Ms. Jones is upset that the teabaggers and seniors are critical of the word socialism.
As an example she points to the Social Security system as one of the supposedly successful, socialistic programs of the government.
However, she goes on to lament the fact, as one of the baby boomers, she will not likely receive Social Security benefits from the bankrupt system.
Why would that be, Ms. Jones? It’s because the government has spent all of the payments they have received from us and replaced it with government bonds that will have to be paid, if possible, by more taxes.
I hate to point this out to you, Ms. Jones, but you just destroyed your own premise that socialism is successful.
Socialism/Marxism has failed wherever it has been tried and we seniors and teabaggers have been around long enough to try and protect our children and grandchildren from its consequences.
There’s something inherently wrong when liberals demonize those who produce, subsidize those who refuse to produce, and canonize those who complain.
Americans built a magnificent nation which has been the envy of the world.
This was done by self-reliant, ambitious, and benevolent people.
Now, as an insult to our forefathers and the “Greatest Generation” we are hanging by thin, gossamer thread to the last vestiges of our American heritage and way of life.
We may well be seeing the end of the nation that has been a beacon of light to the whole world, but NOT without a fight.
