NewsFine arts festival draws quality
By Ellen Sussman, Special to the Green Valley NewsJewell’s Fine Art Festival comes to Green Valley Village on Friday and Saturday with a juried selection of oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastel artwork plus photography along with works in glass, metal, bronze, stone, raku pottery, woodwork, leather and jewelry. Show organizer Sandi Jewell said that within these art mediums are a mixture of Southwestern, Native American, abstract, contemporary and traditional styles. “High-quality art makes our shows stand out,” Jewell said. “We keep our categories limited. Everything is original and hand-made.” Exhibitor and vendor Celia Sislow of Nine Hills Studio, who creates colorful and whimsical ceramic switch plate covers and a variety of other vivid home accessories, said Jewell and her husband, Barry, care for the artists and work hard to put on the best shows for them in all their venues. Asked what her standards are for exhibitors Jewell said, “Every piece must be handmade, exhibitors must have a nice display and works must fit in with where we’re doing a show. We focus on higher-end retirement areas.” Ellen Sussman is a freelance writer in Green Valley. Contact her at ellen2414@cox.net.
