Newswww.gvnews.com Green Valley residents will be treated to a recital by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s new concertmaster, Aaron Boyd, at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Community Performing Arts Center, 1250 W. Continental Road. Boyd, on violin, and Paula Fan, TSO principal keyboard, will perform. Contact TSO for tickets at 520-882-8585. The 90-minute program will open with Franz Schubert’s Sonatina for violin and piano and include sonatas by Georges Enescu and Gabriel Faur/ plus Manuel de Falla’s Suite Populaire Espagnole, for violin and piano. Born in Pittsburgh, Boyd began playing the violin at age 7, and graduated from The Juilliard School. Since making his solo debut at 17 with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Boyd has played as a member of the Metamorphosen, Prometheus and Orpheus chamber orchestras and toured internationally as a member of the Sejong Soloists. An avid chamber musician, he has been heard in concert across the U.S., Europe and Asia. Summer festival appearances include Tanglewood, Fontainbleau, IMS Prussia Cove, Marlboro and La Jolla SummerFest. Boyd acknowledges that he took “a significant pay cut” when he left New York, where he was also on the Columbia University violin faculty. He did so to improve his quality of life. “I wanted to be able to spend more time with my family,” he said. “In New York, I was constantly on the subway rushing back and forth between Brooklyn and rehearsals, recording and performances. I wanted a job with more regular hours than that so I could spend time with my daughter.” rford@gvnews.com
