New consignment shop opens in Sahuarita

Consignment stores are popular shopping venues for those watching their wallets or looking for bargains.

JT’s Closet is the newest local consignment shop and it’s been steadily busy, the owners said, since it opened Oct. 1.

Located next to Papa Murphy’s Pizza and just east of the Sahuarita Safeway parking lot, the shop is owned by Rancho Sahuarita neighbors Terry Bernier and Janice Brown.

Bernier and Brown say JT’s Closet carries gently used, quality clothing, designer purses, jewelry, shoes, belts, hats, scarves and other accessories.

The store also has designer gowns for special occasions and “jeans, jeans, jeans in every brand.” JT’s also stocks “hip, hot” fashions for teens and even has a guys department. Women’s sizes range from the smallest size 0, 1 and 2 on up to plus sizes.

“Before we opened, we collected clothes for nearly two months,” Brown said. “So many people wanted to consign with us.”

Bernier said consignors receive 45 percent commission on the sale of their items.

“We are looking for name brands and designer labels, but we’ll also look at other well-made clothing too,” Bernier added.

What do they like about the business so far?

Bernier, who operated a day spa in Tucson at one time, said she really enjoys the customers.

“I love talking to the people while they shop, and finding out what interests them,” she said.

Brown said she’s excited about the possibility of the business expanding in other areas.

“We have people coming in every day asking if we have antiques and collectibles,” she said. “We may look into consigning those too at some point in the future.”
