I-19 checkpoint bust nets cocaine

Border Patrol agents arrested a man at the Interstate 19 checkpoint Saturday who was driving a vehicle containing 24 pounds of cocaine valued at $176,000. A Border Patrol canine helped flag the car.

The drugs were discovered in a section of the vehicle’s firewall. The driver is a Mexican citizen with a border crosser card.

I just came through there on Friday afternoon and it didn't take 5 minutes from the time I drove up to the time I was through the checkpoint. Thoroughly enjoyed Tumacacori. "

Anita, do you realize that thousands of tons of drugs will cross the border from Mexico into Arizona this year? 24 pounds is about 0.000003%. I wouldn't call that a big score. I call it a waste of our tax dollars. "
