NewsTalk of the Town: Who will win that HDTV?
Are you ready to win gift certificates to the Country Fair White Elephant, Green Valley’s most generous thrift store? How about a 32-inch flat screen HDTV? Well, pay attention, loyal readers. Check out the exciting contest in the Country Fair White Elephant commemorative magazine when it comes out Wednesday, with the Green Valley News. Along with all the information you’ll need to know about the upcoming fair days, as well as the White Elephant parade and all the movers and shakers behind the scenes, you’ll also get to take part in a fun contest with great prizes. Read the commemorative issue. Inside you’ll find 20 questions embedded in the advertisements. Just look for the elephant logo and you’ll find the numbered question next to it. Take the answer form on page 17 and visit the White Elephant between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Saturday, where the answers can be found framed and hung on the walls in the different departments of the new building. Match the numbered questions to the numbers on the answer form, fill in your contact information and drop the completed form in the special box in the White Elephant or the Green Valley News. Any questions, call me (Regina Ford) at 547-9740. Contest runs through Nov. 4. Good luck and have fun. Sheri and Roger Ludlam are expanding Encore Classics once again. Their women’s clothing consignment shop has become so popular, they need even more space to feature the selection of quality clothes, shoes, jewelry and accessories that are for sale. A wall is coming down between their present corner location and the shop space next door. The new Encore Classics, 101 S. La Canada in Suite 61 in the Green Valley Village, will occupy two retail spaces, growing to nearly 3,000 square feet. Sheri says her customers will love the more open feel to the store. She already has spacious dressing rooms and comfy chairs for those who want to either try clothes on or rest between bargain hunting. “We have ladies that make Encore Classics a regular stop on their weekly shopping tours,” Sheri adds. “There is always new inventory and treasures to discover here.” she adds. To thank their customers and welcome new shoppers, Encore Classics will host a grand opening in honor of the second expansion Nov. 5-7, with refreshments from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 7. There will be in-store specials and five drawings daily for $25 gift certificates. Just recently, the Pueblo Estates Women’s Club had a fashion show at the Pueblo Estates Clubhouse featuring fashions from Encore Classics. I just happened to be there when the women were getting fitted for the show and Sheri was busy helping them pick out their ensembles. Modeling were Barb Hillman, Lois Kurt, Ruth Higgins, Phyllis Buchanan, Marion Breitzman, Roxanne Urbanski, and Betty Byron. Encore Classics carries consigned ladies apparel, accessories, shoes and jewelry. It is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sat. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Suite 61 in the Green Valley Village. Author and gerontologist Stephanie Sunshine Pincus will present a talk and sign copies of her latest book, “You’re Never Too Old to Stay Young,” (a must-read behavioral guide to aging with smarts & dignity) on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Green Valley Village, Suite 13. “There are plenty of books out there that concentrate on diet and medicine, especially for the older or elderly patient,” Pincus says. “However, this guide book is about behaving correctly, about helping yourself or your loved ones to feel better, and to do better, and to take proper precautions when things don’t go well. It is about information, knowledge and helpful hints to promote good physical, mental and emotional well-being.” Pincus calls herself a true “Renaissance” woman. She describes herself as a life coach, lecturer, mentor, teacher, poet, linguist, and writer. She is a wife, mother, grandmother and good friend - and she lives and loves life every single day.
