Briefs: H1N1 flu clinics centralized

The Pima County Health Department has moved its clinics for the H1N1 vaccine in response to public demand.

Starting Tuesday, all clinics will be held at Tucson Electric Park, 2500 E. Ajo Way, Tucson.

The schedule is Oct. 20 and 22, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Starting Oct. 26, the schedule is:

Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon.

The vaccine is free; no other vaccinations will be given at the clinics.

Priority groups for the H1N1 nasal spray include: Healthy young children through young adults ages 2-24; healthy caregivers under age 50 who care for children younger than 6 months; healthy healthcare and emergency medical services personnel.


Priority groups for the injectable H1N1 vaccine include: pregnant women; children 6 months to 18 years; young adults ages 19 to 24; healthcare workers who have a greater exposure rate to H1N1 influenza; and caregivers of infants under 6 months who can’t be vaccinated.

Engineer receives

UA lifetime award

David Allais, a Tucson High graduate who went on to become an internationally recognized bar code expert, received the lifetime achievement award from the University of Arizona on Friday.

Allais holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from UofA and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

He was president and CEO of Intermec Corporation, which he built from a small startup into the leading manufacturer of bar code equipment. He is non-executive chairman of PathGuide Technologies, which he founded in 1989.

His aunt through marriage, Wanda Keller, lives in Green Valley.

" Is our "wonderful" new RTC going to provide transportation to and from GV for people needing assistance now that the drive is 20 miles? Will there be places to sit while waiting in line (out of the sun), will water be available, restrooms, etc. "

" What happened to the shots for the over 50 group with health problems (emphysema/COPD/asthma)? I don't see us listed anywhere. Are we already starting to turn away the old and infirm? "
