NewsSaving Animals from Euthanasia (S.A.F.E.) will have dogs and cats, puppies and kittens available for adoption at the Country Fair Oct. 22-24 in Green Valley Village. “Last year’s show was fantastic. Green Valley people were warm and welcoming. We found homes for about ten animals,” said S.A.F.E. president Reagen Kulseth. “The mission of S.A.F.E. is to find as many homes for homeless animals as we can.” There is a screening process whereby S.A.F.E. volunteers aim to determine if an animal will have a safe environment and be a good match for the adopter, Kulseth said. As more and more animals are being abandoned, some due to the economy, she said the age of adoptable pets varies “from eight weeks of age to antiques.” Though no animal’s health can be guaranteed, she said when the animals are at the adoption center they appear to be healthy. There is a charge to adopt a pet, which varies. S.A.F.E. is in need of donations of pet food and cat litter, new and used beds, blankets and toys. Kulseth asks anyone who would like to donate to bring the items to the adoption fair. The non-profit Tucson organization anticipates about 10 to 12 dogs and 20 cats and kittens to be available for adoption. Ellen Sussman is a freelance writer in Green Valley.
