ObituariesELLSWORTH “DUTCH” MILLER 1926-2009
A resident of Green Valley for 15 years, Dutch passed away of leukemia in his home on Sept. 3, 2009. He was born in Detroit, Mich. to Margaretta Miller and Ellsworth Miller Sr. He left school to join the U.S. Navy on his 17th birthday in 1943, and spent most of his service time in the South Pacific. Afterward, following in his father’s footsteps, he became a movie projectionist in Detroit, later graduating Wayne State University to become a very respected and inventive engineer in the auto industry. He held numerous patents, some international, to his credit. He was preceded in death by both parents; a sister Margaretta (Gerald) Hughes; and his son Ellsworth Miller III. He is survived by Patsy Miller, his wife of 60 years; his daughter Lane Miller; granddaughters Darinda Miller and Elle Miller; grandson Ellsworth Miller IV; sister Nancee (Bill) Nevelle; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. Besides his co-workers in the auto industry, his many friends from his various areas of interest will recognize and miss him. In Michigan, they are motorcyclists, NRA members, archers, boaters, fencers, horsemen of all kinds, and last but not least, the sports pilots in Arizona who have shared his lifelong passion for flight. Dutch’s spirit lives in the good times we have all shared. According to his wishes, there will be no organized services. Reader TributesSubmit a Tribute |
