Unique offerings at arts & crafts show

By Regina Ford, Green Valley News

It<0x2019>s not too early to start thinking about gifts for the upcoming holiday season<0x2014>and you know our motto here at the Green Valley News: Shop here. Keep it here.

Many of your neighbors and friends are busy working on items to exhibit and sell at the September Arts and Crafts Show sponsored by the Green Valley Lapidary and Silver Smith Club Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Center.

More than 70 artisans will have for sale hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind goods.

Featured will be the club<0x2019>s Arizona State Fair-prize-winning jewelry makers. You will also find a good selection of original and handmade glass art, pottery, wood carvings, fabric purses and jackets, photography, and a variety of other handcrafted items. All items will be sold by the artisans who made them.

While enjoying the show, you can also shop at La Tienda, the local artisan display studio <0x2014> a rare treat since the studio is open to the public only three times a year.

Meet local artists as you view unique artwork found nowhere else. You can purchase raffle tickets for the hourly drawings and win an art or craft piece donated by the participating artisans. You need not be present to win and a portion of the proceeds will be given to local charities. Lunch and dessert selections will also be available,

The show is free and open to the public. Free parking, too. Snacks and drinks will be for sale for those who want a bite to eat and more shopping.

This event is always popular and each year, there are new and unique items to see and purchase. The Lapidary & Silver Smith Club is one of Green Valley Recreation<0x2019>s most popular clubs with three work shop locations: West Center, East Center and Desert Hills.

The club offers multiple classes to members including chain-making, silversmithing, lapidary, wire wrap classes, precious metal, clay and dichroic (fused) glass and more. For additional information, contact Judy Jensen at 300-4902 or visit the Web site at gvrlapidaryclub.com.
