Garrett was preceded into heaven by his brother Marvin LeRoy. Born in Sullivan County, N.Y. and raised in Liberty, N.Y., the son of Gardner and Hazel Fisher LeRoy, Garrett was a longtime resident of Auburn, N.Y. and lived in North Canton, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pa., before settling in Green Valley in 1997. In his early years, Garrett LeRoy liked to work on his uncle’s dairy farm, hunt and play guitar. After graduating from Liberty High School in 1946, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, N.Y. in 1950. Following graduation, he served two years of active duty with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Korea. He met his wife, Margaret Wilding, while stationed at Fort Belvoir, Va. six weeks before leaving for the Korean War. They were married in 1954 in Forest Glen, Md. After serving with the Army, Garrett worked as a construction and estimating engineer and manager, completing projects in Washington, D.C., Connecticut, Ontario, Canada, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He was employed for many years by the Wikstrom and the S.J. Groves construction companies. Mr. LeRoy loved to hunt deer with his cousins, square dance and travel with his wife, play cards with his friends and family, and had a passion for traveling and watching his children participate in drum corps music competitions. On Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, the 10 a.m. service at St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church and reception in the parish hall following the service will be dedicated to Garrett LeRoy.
